A practical guide explains the new EU directives covering waste electrical and electronic equipment and on restricting the use of certain hazardous substances.

A practical guide for manufacturers on two new directives covering waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and on restricting the use of certain hazardous substances (RoHS) is available from the industry trade association, GAMBICA.

Produced by the European trade federation, ORGALIME, the new guide provides the background to the directives, outlines the main features and examines the key requirements that industry will have to meet when UK legislation is introduced next year.

The text of both Directives is included in the guide.

GAMBICA has been closely involved with the development of the guide and is now working on a number of guidelines to assist with industry's interpretation.

The WEEE Directive specifically covers monitoring and control instruments used in industrial installations and some laboratory equipment and will directly impact GAMBICA members.

As a result, the association has appointed a specialist advisor in waste management to work with members on interpretation of the new requirements and to assist it in advising the DTI on issues on scope.

Copies of the ORGALIME guide are available from GAMBICA for GBP 35 including postage for nonmember companies.
