Two industry compliance schemes are now in a position to register on behalf of their members in advance of UK legislation to enact the WEEE Directive.

Following the closure of the DTI's latest consultation stage on the WEEE Directive and before the publication of the final regulations, two compliance schemes have jointly announced that they are now in a position to register on behalf of their members B2B Compliance, an initiative of the GAMBICA Trade Association, and Sustainalite Compliance, an initiative of the Lighting Industry Federation, have both indicated that their preparatory stages are now complete and they are prepared for registration

Ernest Magog, the Chief Executive of the Lighting Industry Federation stated: "We are comfortable, despite our misgivings regarding some aspects of the legislation, that we are well placed to deliver compliance on behalf of our members".

He was supported by Geoff Young, Chief Executive of GAMBICA and a Director of B2B Compliance: "Both the lighting sector and the medical devices and monitoring and control instruments sectors have shown their commitment by ensuring that robust and practical systems are in place by the original deadlines - we now await the DTI to invite registration applications".

Both schemes have been developed by their respective industry sectors in recognition that the criteria for business-to-business products differ significantly to the requirements for household products.
