GarrettCom Europe has a new range of media convertors for outdoor Ethernet applications.

GarrettCom Europe has a new range of media convertors for outdoor Ethernet applications where copper and fibre cable transmission technologies need to be converted to allow network upgrades or expansion.

As LANs become larger, more intricate and more challenging, network infrastructures become an increasingly complex combination of fibre and copper cables.

Upgrading, or integrating existing networks with new components, requires that network designers can convert different transmission media types.

Solutions must be flexible and scaleable as well as secure and manageable to avoid significant expense and disruption.

This is the market where media convertors provide the ideal solution.

The new GarrettCom 14EH family has 48 options, selected as required and fitted into a sealed metal case, which is also used as a heat sink.

Seven different fibre types are available, including multimode SC, ST and MTRJ, single-mode SC, ST and LC and long reach (40km) single mode SC types.

No internal airflow is required for cooling.

Ambient temperature rating is up to -40 to +75C depending on the power source used.

The 14EH is suitable for temperature uncontrolled outdoor applications.

The 14EH case resists dust, dirt, moisture, smoke and insects, and is plenum rated.

Choices of models for use with external AC or internal DC power are available.

12 and 24V DC internal power supplies are available for industrial use.

Conformal coating versions can be supplied for absolute protection in tropical, humid, dusty or corrosive atmospheres.

Mounting options include stand-alone panel-mounting, DIN-rail, or rack-mount tray.

All models support full-and half-duplex mode via auto-negotiation so that an attached autonegotiating RJ-45 switch or hub port operates at its highest performance level.

The uplink switch on the TX port allows the unit to fit into any installation without crossover cables.

All models come with two sets of LED indicators, one set on the front for viewing convenience when the media convertor is wall-mounted, and one LED set mounted in the end adjacent to the media ports for easy viewing when units are in a rack-mount tray.

Link pass-through is standard.
