Convertor switches provide gigabit performance

A GarrettCom Europe product story

GarrettCom Europe convertor switches let users upgrade to gigabit data transmission speeds without compromising on multimode transmission distance.

GarrettCom Europe has developed an industrial Ethernet convertor switch which allows users to upgrade to gigabit performance without compromising on transmission distance.

The CSG14 convertor switches allow industrial installations with multimode fibre to achieve 2000m gigabit connectivity, which has previously only been available when using single-mode fibre cable.

While transmission distances of 2000m over multimode fibre are standard for 10/100Mbit Ethernet, any upgrade to gigabit speeds has always been a problem because the distance has been limited to just 550m.

Users looking to upgrade have been forced to rework their network installations around shorter transmission distances and/or single-mode topologies.

With the introduction of the CSG14 convertor switches, GarrettCom Europe has overcome these problems and made the upgrade path simple and cost-effective.

"The performance benefits of industrial Ethernet have seen it become the technology of choice in networking applications where high volumes of information need to be sent at high speed", says David Moss, Business Development Manager at GarrettCom Europe.

"But levels of monitoring and control data are ever increasing, with bandwidth industrial applications growing exponentially".

"The advent of products offering gigabit speeds opens up the potential for users to reap even greater performance, but the distance limitation with multimode fibre has limited the upgrade potential in existing installations".

"But with the launch of the CSG14 convertor switches with gigabit support, GarrettCom Europe can provide an easy upgrade path for users looking to increase speeds without sacrificing transmission distance".

The CSG14 is a high-speed flexible edge-of-the-network industrial Ethernet media convertor and switch combination that includes two 10/100/1000 copper ports and a Gbit fibre port in a small form factor switch chassis that can be configured to support any multimode or single-mode Gb fibre connector type.

The CSG14 product is available in three versions to meet the needs of different application environments.

One is industrially hardened for use on factory floors, one is rated to withstand outdoor temperature extremes and the third is PoE (power over Ethernet) premium-rated for harsh area and outdoor applications that require both power and data on the same wire.

Users can specify DC or AC input power and range of metal cases.

The CSG14 can be supplied with a conformal coating to allow use in highly corrosive environments in the oil and gas industry, demanding power utility substations and manufacturing, mining and transportation applications.

Hardware is available for panel or rack-mount installation.
