GBP Ergonomics of Swindon has supplied and installed 143 ergonomic workstations in a prestigious deal with BAE Systems of Rochester, Kent.

This leading hi-tech company produces flight control computers for civil and military markets and is part of a 120,000 employee, global organisation with an annual turnover of around GBP 12 billion.

The GBP workstations are being used in a newly constructed Engineering Laboratory where preproduction test equipment will be manufactured and advanced test programmes carried out.

BAE Systems states that the units' versatile, modular construction enabling easy modification to suit changing needs was the deciding factor in purchasing them.

The H-Frame workstations, with special worktops for cable management, were delivered, assembled and installed in planned phases to prevent any possibility of handling and storage problems on site.

They are constructed from tubular steel H-shaped legs connected by a rear frame and front C-rail, and can carry load capacities EDL up to 300kg maximum.

Height, without worktops, is adjustable from 700 to 950mm.

Their modular construction allows total flexibility to change or adapt production needs as required with minimum disruption and cost.

Matching shelving and drawer units completed the order.

Ergonomics is about achieving human efficiency in the working environment.

Creating a good working posture for operators coupled with the correct positioning of shelves, movable tools and assembly components, helps reduce muscular-skeletal disorders, eliminates much off time and increases production rates.
