Steve Knight, Tencel Systems Manager, commenting on the introduction of the new software in the company's Grimsby plant, said: "With our process operating 24/7/365, it was very important for the software changeover not to have any impact on manufacturing".
"In total, the seamless migration of our 21 Scada/View nodes took us only 50 to 60 hours over a 10 week period without the need for a single outage".
"Now we are able to take advantage of the greater functionality offered by iFix, in particular the ability to use the embedded VBA to connect directly to the SQL database, ensuring high speed and accurate data archiving".
Seven Scada nodes in the Lyocell manufacturing plant provide the interfaces for 15 View nodes and 20 PlantTV nodes.
From the View nodes, process technicians are able to view process mimics and critical system parameters and control specific process equipment and devices.
Thus they can ensure that the plant produces prime quality product, safely and at its rated capacity.
The PlantTV nodes allow management and process engineers to interrogate the complete system.
The change over to the new software left the established view and control graphics and procedures unaffected.
Tencel is produced by an advanced 'closed loop' solvent spinning process, with minimal impact on the environment and economical use of energy and water.
It uses a nontoxic solvent which is recycled.
The fibre is twisted or spun into yarns, which can then be woven or knitted into fabrics and garments. Request a free brochure from GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms UK ...
