Genzyme controls manufacturing with Ifix software

A GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms UK product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 22, 2008

Kerrco Automation has supplied GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms Proficy HMI/SCADA - Ifix to Genzyme Ireland for use as its site standard.

Proficy HMI/SCADA - Ifix is suited for process environments, especially regulated industries operating under FDA's 21 CFR Part 11 regulations.

Based on an advanced client/server distributed and open architecture, it integrates with existing hardware and software and provides connectivity to the rest of the GE Fanuc Proficy software suite.

Michael Lawlor, automation engineer for Genzyme Ireland, said: 'We have used Ifix from the beginning in manufacturing one of our key therapies for kidney disease patients.

'We are just about to start the process validation phase of runs to our multi-product tabletting plant where Ifix is employed at the SCADA level.

'The software has now been chosen as our site SCADA/HMI standard.

'The openness of Ifix has meant it has been easy to integrate with third-party PLCs and to communicate with the Manufacturing Execution System layer.

'We are also starting to implement Ifix in other areas of our plant, including into our Sterile Fill Finish facility.

'This is a multiproduct facility where we produce biotechnology treatments for various serious diseases.' George Walker, sales director at Kerrco Automation, said: 'GE Fanuc's Proficy HMI/SCADA - Ifix provides process visualisation, data acquisition and supervisory control of plant floor operations.

'It gives the power and security to precisely monitor and control every aspect of a manufacturing process, as well as equipment and resources.

'This results in faster response to production issues, less waste, improved quality, faster time-to-market and increased profitability.'.
