GE Fanuc has announced that Sansteel Group has chosen the company's process control system, Proficy Process Systems, for its furnace revamp project in Shanghai.

The solution, which is valued at approximately USD300,000 (GBP181,000), will provide critical control for both the metal furnace and the plant utility system, featuring GE Fanuc's PACSystems RX3i controller.

Sansteel believes that using Proficy Process Systems as the core of the revamp project will reduce the cost of the revamp by 25 per cent compared to traditional systems.

Kam Yuen, product manager, said: 'Proficy Process Systems is a fully integrated process control system that, based on its flexible configuration, architecture and choice of controller platforms, can address the needs of customers in different industries through the ability to choose either the PAC8000 controllers or PACSystems controllers.

'When used with the PAC8000 controllers it provides advanced DCS capabilities to customers in industries such as Oil and Gas.

'When used with the PACSystems controllers, it provides an advanced process control system for customers such as Sansteel Group Corporation,' he added.

Steve Ryan, general manager for GE Fanuc's process and safety business said: 'The foundation of Proficy Process Systems is a contemporary hardware and software infrastructure that offers the benefits of both traditional DCS and PLC/HMI systems, without many of the historic limitations of those approaches.'.
