Fluid sensor keeps down truck emissions

A Gentech International product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 13, 2007

Gentech has introduced a sensor which monitors levels of AdBlue and provides an output for designers to interface to the vehicle's ECU.

A new fluid level sensor is making sure trucks keep on the road and avoid high penalties associated with stringent Euro 4 / Euro 5 emission standards.

Gentech has introduced a sensor which monitors levels of AdBlue and provides an output for designers to interface to the vehicle's ECU.

AdBlue (32.5% urea solution) is used in the SCR system in diesel trucks, where it reacts in the exhaust catalyser to greatly reduce NOx emissions.

Running without AdBlue would result in an engine exceeding the permitted emission levels so it's critical to operators that AdBlue levels are maintained in the reservoir.

The AdBlue sensor is built into a robust tube structure which retains the float assembly.

Gentech's Custom Solution Team is also able to adapt the size and fitting requirement of the sensor to meet the needs of individual engine or vehicle builders.

In addition to monitoring fluid level Gentech addressed a problem highlighted by vehicles operating in very cold conditions, frozen AdBlue.

A heater element using the engine's own cooling system has been incorporated into the sensor assembly to help ensure AdBlue is available within the recommended guidelines.
