Controllers monitor combustible gas

A General Monitors product story

The new Model 480A and 580A combustible gas monitoring controllers combine superior performance, ease of use, simple installation and long service life.

Designed to provide highly reliable fixed-point combustible gas detection in harsh environments, the new Model 480A and 580A combustible gas monitoring controllers combine superior performance, ease of use, simple installation and long service life.

The Model 480A (single-channel) and 580A (dual-channel) controllers are designed for continuous monitoring of combustible gas concentrations in the 0-100% LEL (lower explosive limit), and are factory calibrated to a particular gas or vapour.

Calibration is simple and adjustment free, which reduces setup and installation time.

Designed for use in rugged or dirty environments, the new controllers support a wide range of oil/gas applications, including production, refining, distribution and storage.

They also find extensive use within chemical processing plants where they support the production of various automotive fluids, plastics, paints and solvents.

Other applications include gas turbines for electric power generation and sewage treatment plants.

With their robust continuous diffusion, electrocatalytic bead sensing technology, the controllers operate over wide temperature and humidity ranges.

These sensors function on the relatively simple principle that a combustible gas can be oxidised to produce heat, resulting in a temperature change that is converted via a standard Wheatstone bridge temperature transducer to a signal, with the change in temperature being directly proportional to the gas concentration.

A wide variety of relay options are offered with the Model 480A and 580A to meet specific customer requirements.

They both feature a digital LED display along with LED indicators to provide a visual indication of alarm, fault and status.

Mode and reset buttons are provided for local control by plant technicians.

The system operates on 117V AC, 50-60Hz (optional 220V AC, 50-60Hz) or 24V DC primary input power with 24V DC battery backup capability.

The controllers can be wall, panel or rack mounted in a nonhazardous area.

Both units have CSA approval.
