Inspection company expands in China

A GKS Inspection Services product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 7, 2007

GKS Inspection Services China consists of a team of engineers based in Kausang (near Shanghai) and Guangdong.

GKS Inspection Services has opened offices in two major markets within China.

"GKS China is an integral part of our strategy of becoming the global leader in the 3D laser scanning and dimensional inspection services industry", said Armando Alonso, GKS Vice President.

"GKS China broadens our scope of coverage in Asia while also giving us entry into the fast-growing Chinese manufacturing sector".

"We can now seamlessly provide metrology and reverse engineering services to the numerous multinational companies who have operations in China".

GKS Inspection Services China consists of a team of experienced engineers based in Kausang (near Shanghai) and Guangdong who provide reverse engineering, 3D laser scanning, CAD modelling and dimensional inspection services.

The company is expanding rapidly and plans to hire several more engineers in the next year.

GKS China has a wide array of equipment including Laser Design CS-series laser scanners equipped with RPS-150 laser probes and the latest Surveyor Scan Control software.

Once the 3D scan data is collected, GKS China uses inspection software to create a colour error deviation map that clearly delineates any variations between the as-built part and the design intent.

Other types of software enable GKS China to create a CAD model from the laser scan point cloud, a process referred to as reverse engineering.

The company also has several CMMs running DMIS software in addition to 2D CCD Measuring Systems.

The team of engineers in GKS China is well versed in 3D laser scanning and CAD modelling along with traditional measurement and inspection technologies and processes.

Laser scanning systems project laser light onto surfaces while cameras continuously triangulate the changing distance and profile of the laser as it sweeps along, enabling the object to be accurately replicated.

Noncontact laser scanners are able to quickly measure parts while generating far greater numbers of data points than touch probing systems.

Laser scanning can replicate the complete geometry of a complex part to a high level of accuracy, typically to within 0.0254mm.

Many global companies are interested in taking advantage of the improved accuracy and speed provided by 3D laser scanning but need to scan only a relatively small number of parts.

Such companies have difficulty justifying the cost of acquiring a laser scanner and training operators in its use.

GKS Inspection Services, a division of Laser Design, offers outsourced laser scanning services on a project basis.

Companies worldwide send parts to GKS, which will then create a CAD model or inspection report quickly and accurately, therefore saving valuable time, money and resources.

Alternately, GKS can dispatch trained metrologists to the customer site using portable measuring and scanning devices.
