Laser scanning company expands in India

A GKS Inspection Services product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Nov 5, 2007

GKS India is one of the largest such operations in India and the only one with the high-accuracy scanning capabilities of its Laser Design Surveyor DS-3040 3D laser scanning system.

GKS Inspection Services' laser scanning and CAD modeling service bureau in Pune, India has expanded into a larger facility because of dramatic growth in demand for laser scanning services.

The 279m2 GKS India office is staffed with over two dozen engineers, metrologists and support staff.

The new location allows GKS to better serve all Indian customers including the Pune area's automotive industry.

GKS India is one of the largest such operations in India and the only one with the high-accuracy scanning capabilities of its Laser Design Surveyor DS-3040 3D laser scanning system.

"GKS India is an integral part of our strategy for becoming the global leader in the 3D laser scanning services industry", said Armando Alonso, GKS Vice President.

"Our India operation has been so successful that we have expanded both in square footage and number of engineers to provide expedient service to the fast growing Indian manufacturing sector".

The Laser Design Surveyor DS-3040 system provides engineers more capacity and versatility, reducing scan time by collecting data faster than conventional noncontact measuring technologies.

The system features full CMM capability as an option.

Using its laser line technology, the Surveyor DS-3040 scans parts from all orientations and then easily rotates the data back into a common co-ordinate system.

Operators can quickly and simply scan freeform surfaces and parts of all sizes, especially those with complex geometry to a high level of accuracy.

GKS India provides high-accuracy scanning, as well as CAD modelling and reverse engineering services for GKS' worldwide business.

In addition to the DS-3040, GKS India also owns a Faro Platinum 2.4m, seven-axis arm with multiple interchangeable Laser Design scanners for portable onsite scanning.

The DS-3040 also features multiple interchangeable Laser Design scanners to enable GKS India to scan parts of all sizes and types at its new facility.

The engineers at the facility create surface models from the 3D scan data in a process known as reverse engineering.

GKS India's reverse engineering capabilities include creation of Class A surfaces and parametric models for all major CAD software programs.

GKS India also uses inspection software to create a colour error deviation map that clearly delineates any variations between the as-built part and the design intent.
