GlobalSpec has appointed Jeffrey M Killeen to the position of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

GlobalSpec has appointed Jeffrey M Killeen to the position of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

Killeen joins GlobalSpec from Forbes.com, where as CEO, he led the development of Forbes' portfolio of online information businesses from 1999-2001.

Prior to his tenure at Forbes, he served as Chief Operating Officer of Barnes and Noble.com, leading that organisation from a startup to the world's third largest consumer e-commerce company.

GlobalSpec cofounder, John Schneiter, will continue as the company's President.

"This is a fantastic event for us", said Schneiter.

"Jeff brings a wealth of experience to GlobalSpec, from scaling start-ups to running billion-dollar organisations.

He understands content-intensive database models like ours, and has a proven track record in his ability to achieve rapid growth for these types of businesses.

GlobalSpec completed the year 2001 at 300% growth-we are now at a stage where, if you haven't been there before, your experience base can be easily taxed.

We're very fortunate to have Jeff's expertise and talent to draw upon at this pivotal time".

Killeen brings more than 25 years of marketing, sales, and business development experience to GlobalSpec.

He joins GlobalSpec after two years as CEO of Forbes.com where, under his leadership, the company's market ranking consistently held a "Top 10" position in the highly competitive online financial category.

In his COO post at Barnes and Noble.com, Killeen led the scaling of revenues from start-up to $200 million and increased their customer base to four million.

He also held the CEO position at SBC New Media, Pacific Bell Interactive Media, and American Insurance Services Group, and executive positions at a number of subsidiary businesses inside Dun and Bradstreet; the last of which was Senior Vice President of Telco Operations at RH Donnelley.

"GlobalSpec has built an exceptional foundation for what we believe will be the leading source of information and commerce for design engineers", Killeen said.

"I'm very excited about the opportunity to join GlobalSpec at this important inflection point in the company's growth.

We have every intention of becoming the dominant information resource serving the engineering and technical buying community worldwide".
