Square wire coils have great advantages over round coils and ribbon wire coils in that there is an increase in wire surface contact area, leading to a decrease in the DC resistance and a power increase.
(In the wound state, to obtain the same DCR as a round wire, a 12-15% smaller square wire size can be used) This offers great benefits,as depending on the engineer's specific goals, coils can be made smaller while retaining the same power, or conversely by keeping the same size of coil, there is a power increase.
Furthermore, the volumetric occupancy ratio of the coil greatly increases, meaning that the wasted space between windings of a round wire coil are largely eliminated, thus greatly aiding heat dissipation.
As the square wire coil has a much lower operating temperature; this is also beneficial from a power standpoint.
For these reasons, square wire coils are beneficial in any area that uses coils, from the audio industry to motor coils, to electron microscopes, to electric cables, and Goto Denshi is already in production with a number of manufacturers in a variety of fields.
As the first company to produce square wire coils, Goto holds numerous patents relating from the manufacture of the square wire itself, to the actual coil winding machines used to wind the coils, which were developed internally.
To meet growing demand, Goto Denshi will complete the move to its increased capacity new production facility in Tendo,Yamagata at the end of this month.
