LDS builds on Genesis DAQ system

A HBM GmbH product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Nov 7, 2008

LDS Test and Measurement have launched an integrated data acquisition system and transient recorder under the Nicolet brand, the Genesis 5i.

This builds on the portability of the Dimension 4i and the multi-channel and transient recording of the Genesis DAQ system.

The Genesis 5i data acquisition system supports up to 40 channels

The Genesis 5i data acquisition system supports up to 40 channels

Genesis 5i offers data acquisition using a range of configurable input modules.

It supports up to 40 channels, and can handle a sustained streaming rate of 50 Mbytes per second to its hard disks.

It offers a maximum sample rate in transient mode of 100 million samples per second per channel, with a huge 1.6 Gbytes of memory for each channel.

Physical signal conditioners for voltage, strain, accelerometers or other sensors are available, as well as high-speed differential and fibre-optic isolated input modules.

The integrated Dual-Core PC runs Microsoft Windows Vista 64bit Ultimate, providing enough processing power for the most demanding analysis.

Perception 64bit Enterprise Edition data acquisition software is LDS Test and Measurement's all-in-one product, offering hardware control, acquisition, and time and frequency domain analysis, right through to report generation.

The integration between Perception and Microsoft Office allows test results in many formats to be easily transferred to Excel or Word, manually or in a batch process.

Genesis 5i's robust housing underwent tough shock and vibration testing to ensure that the DAQ and transient recording instrument can readily handle field use.

The design also includes special precautions, such as rubberised corner mounts, shock-absorbing fixtures for hard disks, and a protective front cover to ensure proper operation for years.

For the very harshest use, all hard drives can be replaced with solid-state hard disks to offer high standards of field data integrity.

The Genesis 5i is equipped with full networking capability, WLAN and a wired Gigabit Ethernet.

Data can also be backed up using front-panel USB ports, built-in DVD-RW, or the optional, removable hard drive.

The removable hard drive allows mission-critical data - or even the complete system software - to be stored in a secure location within seconds.
