Geeplus launches smallest voice coil motor

A Geeplus product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 1, 2009

Geeplus International has launched a standard voice coil motor that measures 16mm in diameter, 14mm in length and develops 0.55N of force.

The VCM1614 uses a Geeplus-designed bearing that keeps dimensions down and provides better guidance of the coil assembly.

The sintered bronze bearing replaces what would normally be a plastic counterpart, which tended to lead to excessive play as it wore through use.

The magnetic material in the VCM1614 has been upgraded to a stronger material, resulting in a 20 per cent increase in force from a given power input in comparison to materials used previously.

Developing 0.55N of force with 1W excitation power, the VCM1614 uses a steel flexure support to provide linear guidance and the bearings have reduced the radial play to zero, which makes the component suitable for applications involving optical steering on focussing assemblies or for use with small flow control devices.

Other Geeplus stories

  • Solenoid offers increased stability
The use of an electrically driven permanent magnet rotor in the Geeplus' new solenoid provides fully energised torque which is available for the fastest rotation in either direction.
  • Easy connection for voice coil motor
The VM2836 voice coil motor includes a flex circuit termination and cover to provide a simple and reliable electrical connection.
  • Electromagnets reject residual magnetism
Electromagnets are designed with ejector pins to enable them to overcome the problems of residual magnetism occurring when power to the device is switched off.
  • Voice coil motor takes a new slant
A very low profile flat voice coil motor from Geeplus Europe is designed in such a way that it offers good clearance in assembly and has latitude for tilting on one axis.
  • Small claims for bistable rotary solenoid
Claimed to be the world's smallest bistable rotary solenoid, Geeplus has launched the tiny S1020 which measures a miniscule 20mm long and just 10mm in diameter.
