ISL, the distributor for Dow Corning's Molykote range of speciality lubricants, has launched a new range of high performance chain lubricants offering higher temperature resistance and lower friction.
The higher temperature performance of the Molykote chain lubricants now enables chains to operate up to 250 degC.
Temperature affects lubricants in two ways: oxidation and evaporation.
In both cases, Molykote lubricants offer superior performance compared with both mineral and synthetic competitors.
Measured against other high quality synthetic chain oils, Molykote chain lubricants show a 300% better performance for resistance against oxidation and a 600% reduction in evaporation at elevated temperatures.
The higher temperature performance of the Molykote range is also coupled with a substantial reduction in the coefficient of friction.
Typical coefficient of friction values of competitive oils in the range 0.10 to 0.12 are reduced to just 0.04 enabling greater mechanical efficiency to be achieved in the chain transmission.
The Molykote range features three chain oils for high temperature applications.
Type S-1501 is able to operate from -25 to +250 degC with 3% evaporation at 200 degC for 24 hours (14% at 200 degC for 96h) and oxidation of 10% at 200 degC for 4h.
Viscosity at 40 C is 130 sq.mm/s and SRV coefficient of friction is 0.11.
Type S-1502 operates from -30 to +250 degC with 2% evaporation at 200 degC for 24h (12% at 200 degC for 96h) and oxidation of 5% at 200 degC for 4h.
Viscosity is 150sq.
mm/s at 40 degC with SRV coefficient of friction of 0.04.
The final high temperature/low friction oil, type S-1503, offers the same characteristics as type S-1502 except operating temperature range is from -20 to +250 degC and viscosity is 220 sq.
mm/s at 40 degC.
A new selection guide for the Molykote range of chain lubricants is also available from ISL detailing chain lubrication technology, a product selection chart and technical characteristics.
The Dow Corning Molykote product ranges include oils, pastes, greases and anti friction coatings, both wet and dry.
