The Grimsby Institute is to deliver engineering training to apprentices at the new Centre for Assessment of Technical Competence - Humber facility near Stallingborough.

The Grimsby Institute has recently won an important contract to deliver engineering training to apprentices at the new Centre for Assessment of Technical Competence - Humber (CATCH) facility near Stallingborough The Institute will be the sole supplier for the ECITB apprenticeship scheme at CATCH

For the past two years the Grimsby Institute has won the contract to deliver the ECITB (Engineering Construction Industry Training Board) National Apprenticeship Scheme for Engineering Construction Programme (NASEC) at the Humber Engineering Training Centre, Nuns Corner against very strong local and national competition.

During this time the success rates on the scheme have been excellent with the apprentices completing essential one year "off-job" training, which includes skills development and trade specific training in pipe fitting and plating.

In addition they have to complete key skills and short course qualifications such as health and safety, and scaffolding.

The new CATCH facility has now been set up locally, but with input from the ECITB, and it has decided to run all its local training from the centre.

Once more, against strong competition, the Grimsby Institute has retained the contract to deliver the training for the ECITB apprenticeship scheme at CATCH.

The CATCH facility is a unique learning and training centre, designed to make a major contribution to training in the area's chemical industries, and the Grimsby Institute has been pleased to bring its wealth of experience in education and training to help establish the centre.

CATCH will replicate the real life size and complexity of equipment found in the chemical industry and allow competency assessment and skills training to take place in real life situations.

The Grimsby Institute will be relocating its successful pipefitting and plating delivery team to CATCH and strengthening this team further to bring expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering.

This eight person team will be led by Grimsby Institute curriculum leader James Danby.

"The CATCH facility is a superb centre for the training of industry professionals", said James Danby.

"The Grimsby Institute is delighted to be involved in the project and hope that the partnership will continue to grow and be successful in the delivery of first class education for the chemical and process industries".
