Brominated flame retardants forced upwards
Chemtura has announced worldwide price increases ranging from $0.65/kg to $1.40/kg for some of its brominated flame retardant grades.
Prices will increase for Great Lakes brominated flame retardants and derivatives including: Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) - Great Lakes CD-75P and SP-75 series; Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBA) - Great Lakes BA-59P; and Tribromophenol additives (TBP) - Great Lakes PH-73FF.
The company stated that the new pricing is driven by increasing energy and raw material costs and ongoing environmental and regulatory costs.
HBCD products provide a high level of flame retardant performance to polystyrene foams.
TBBA is an effective flame retardant for epoxy resins used in printed circuit boards and other thermoplastic electronics applications.
TBP, a reactive flame retardant, is most often used as an intermediate in the manufacture of polymeric brominated flame retardants.
