Delegates from seven GTMA member companies went on a fact finding tour to Pune during January, visiting the premises of 15 companies and hearing presentations from a further five organisations.

Delegates from seven GTMA member companies participated in a one-week fact finding tour to Pune during January, visiting the premises of 15 companies and hearing presentations from a further five organisations The agenda, which was arranged by Delcam's Pune office, included visits to a wide range of businesses manufacturing press tools and mould tools as well as a cutting tool manufacturer

There were also visits to moulding and presswork production facilities.

The mission was supported by UK Trade and Investment, with a grant of GBP 550 to each of the delegates from GTMA member companies, which included: Newcastle Tool and Gauge, AW Precision, Portway Tool and Gauge, WR Tooling, Waveney Precision, Tonbridge Tools and Bedestone.

Tom Griffiths, GTMA Business Manager, who organised and accompanied the visit, commented: "It was a very successful week and the delegates found it an excellent opportunity to discover the level of toolmaking skills and services available in Pune".

Paul Royston of WR Tooling summed up: "For us this trade mission was to act as a preliminary investigation into the potential of the Indian toolmaking sector, and as such proved valuable in evaluating the varied cross section of companies visited".

"Every company was eager to impress and quoted large recent growth with enormous future potential".

"I believe there are future business opportunities that need to be investigated".

Further fact-finding missions to China and Russia are planned for later in 2005.
