Duracell's AA alkaline battery is featured in an exhibition at MoMA QNS, The Museum of Modern Art's temporary exhibition facility in Long Island City, Queens, New York The exhibition, "Humble Masterpieces", is on view until 27th September 2004

Humble Masterpieces spotlights everyday objects "modest in size and price" that are "true masterpieces" of design.

The Duracell AA battery, which first appeared in 1960, was included in Humble Masterpieces by the exhibition's curator Paola Antonelli of MoMA's Architecture and Design Department.

It sits alongside other distinguished entrants such as chopsticks, safety pins, an ice cream scoop, and Post-It notes.

"It's hard to imagine life without the familiar copper and black battery", said Mark Bertolami, VP of Marketing for Duracell.

"Our AA battery has powered everyday devices in both home and business for decades and it continues to be a familiar and trusted object for people in over 60 countries around the world".

The Duracell brand name was first adopted in 1964.

Seven years later, the distinctive copper and black CopperTop graphic was first introduced.

Today's AA battery looks similar to the version that was launched decades ago, but incorporates major advances in chemistry along with safety and environmental features that make it ideal for powering a vast range of portable devices.

Duracell's Durabeam flashlight was also selected for the exhibition.
