New from Gefran, the 600 Series of single-loop modular process and temperature controllers have a fast sample time of 120ms and 0.2% full-scale precision.
The main input is universal, and can be configured from among approximately 60 different types, including thermocouples, RTD, PTC, NTC, 0-60mV, 12-60mV, 0-1V, 0-5V, 1-5V, 0-10V, 2-10V, 0-20mA and 4-20mA.
Importantly, users do not have to change hardware or use external shunts to go from one type of input to another; they simply change a parameter on the input configuration menu.
To manage nonlinear sensors, Gefran has provided 32-element custom linearisation of the main input.
For load control requirements (very common in electrical resistor heating), there is an auxiliary input that reads load current, shunted from the secondary circuit of an external current transformer.
An alarm threshold and a relay output can be assigned to the current reading in order to check for (even partial) breaking of the heating resistors.
The front panel, with IP65 protection rating, has a double four-digit display with 10 and 7mm high green LEDs, a keyboard with two "up" and "down" keys, one function key "F", and a fourth key that can be configured with manual/automatic, hold, alarm reset, and set change functions.
These functions can also be assigned to an optional digital input.
There are many control algorithms, including heat/cool control with independent PID actions, an automatic tuning algorithm for control parameters, and soft start.
The adjustable set point gradient can be assigned to a setpoint hold, so that the 600 can manage the heat cycle of small ovens in complete autonomy.
The Gefran 600's modular hardware allows it to have up to four outputs.
The wide selection includes relay, logic, analogue and triac outputs.
The serial communications option, available in standard RS485, is available on a plug-in card for easy upgrading of the controller any time after installation.
The available protocols are Cencal and Modbus RTU.
A flexible hardware structure is only one of the Gefran 600's advantages for adaptability.
The device is supplied in an "easy" configuration with just a few software parameters (only those for the code ordered, indispensable for simple start up of the controller).
This means that the controller is ready to be used immediately after setting the set points and any alarm limits.
The auto tune function is simple, and can be launched from the front panel.
This functionality is based on the awareness that customers are always looking for a product with higher performance and flexibility, but also simple and easy to use.

To complete the picture, the tireless Gefran Service has prepared a continuous and efficient before and after-sales support for 600 Controller users.
For machine builders and distributors and for all interested customers who require ad-hoc programming, Gefran offers the "Winstrum" PC configuration kit, configuration software for Windows (95, 98, NT), which configures the entire device in seconds, saves programs, prints data, displays trends, and saves historical data, in addition to recovering factor configurations.
A service serial is always available on these devices for programming from PC, even when the digital dialogue option has not been requested.
The 600 controller finds ideal applications on plastics processing machines, on small ovens, on hot channel controls, on temperature control units for die fluids, and in all industrial control applications demanding compactness, simplicity, and optimum process control.
