Extensometer makes Chinese debut

A Lloyd Instruments product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 27, 2006

Chinaplas 2006 from 26th to 29th April provides first opportunity in China to see extensometer for accurate extension measurement of materials such as semi-rigid plastics, elastomers and rubbers.

Chinaplas 2006 from 26th to 29th April in Shanghai will provide the first opportunity in the People's Republic of China to see Lloyd Instruments' EXPlus extensometer for the accurate extension measurement of materials such as semi-rigid plastics, elastomers and rubbers.

The EX800Plus extensometer will be fitted to an LRXPlus low force single column materials testing machine.

Also on show will be the LFPlus single column test instrument, and the MFI-10 melt flow indexer and recently upgraded HDT/Vicat measurement instrument from the Davenport range of polymer test equipment.

Available in two travel lengths, 250 and 800mm, the EXPlus extensometers can be fitted to any of the company's EZ and Plus series of materials testing machines for testing up to 150kN.

In addition to increased travel over previous models and capable of accepting samples up to 25mm thick, these high accuracy extensometers can be mounted rigidly in various ways, providing adaptability for accommodating samples and fitting interchangeable grips.

They are used to test high elongation materials to yield and break to ISO9513: 2002.

The LFPlus and LRXPlus machines provide versatile materials testing capabilities for tensile, compression, flexural and friction testing applications at forces up to 1 and 5kN respectively.

All the instruments on show can be operated under computer control with the company's Nexygen MT control and analysis software.

The software immediately recognises the plug-and-play extensometer and has a library of international standard tests for many applications.

The Davenport HDT/Vicat Plus instrument is used to test plastic material for heat distortion temperature and Vicat, a measure of the temperature at which plastic starts to soften rapidly.

With six independent test stations, the instrument has designs to improve protection for operators from possible exposure to the heating oil used in the system.

The Davenport MFI-10 melt flow indexer is an intelligent modular system, which allows fully automatic measurement of the melt flow rate of a polymer.

It can be used both by resin manufacturers and processors such as extruders and injection moulders to measure the melt flow rate and melt volume rate of thermoplastics before use in manufacturing.

To complement its range of products for the plastics industry, Lloyd also makes melt viscometers for intrinsic and melt viscosity testing of PET, density gradient columns and falling dart impact testing equipment for plastic film.
