Microwaves rely on springs

A Harris Springs product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 25, 2001

Millions of households rely upon the quality of Panasonic microwaves, which in turn rely on tension and compression springs provided by Harris for smooth and repeatable door action

The springs are used for two different types of door latches on the microwaves - the tension spring comes into action when the door catch release is operated.

It is manufactured from 0.6mm diameter carbon steel plated wire and features a carefully manufactured loop at a specific angle which provides the release action.

Harris Springs' ability to provide both types of springs in large quantities - around one million per year of tension and compression versions - has been essential in the success of the relationship with Panasonic.

The open-ended agreement between the two companies highlights the confidence that Panasonic places in the quality of Harris Springs and its ability to meet the demanding delivery schedule.
