As part of its expansion plans, precision spring manufacturer Harris Springs of Reading has acquired Ray Lea Springs and Pressings of Maidenhead.

As part of its expansion plans, precision spring manufacturer Harris Springs of Reading has acquired Ray Lea Springs and Pressings of Maidenhead.

Over the last 45 years, Ray Lea Springs and Pressings has built a reputation for manufacturing complex wire shapes and a range of torsion springs.

Commenting on the acquisition, Harris Springs Managing Director, Philip Harris said: "Today's customers are more demanding in terms of price, delivery and service.

In addition to manufacturing precision-engineered springs, they expect us to hold stock on their behalf, operate just-in-time delivery, manage all QA administration and provide special procurement services.

To remain at the forefront of our industry, we have to offer a wider range of spring products and constantly seek new ways of adding value.

The acquisition of Ray Lea Springs is part of this strategy, it is a well respected company with a strong customer base and a good reputation within the industry.

Furthermore, the acquisition will provide new products and additional production capacity.

By merging the two operations we are able to offer a much wider range of spring and wire shapes.

This will improve our service to existing customers through a more comprehensive solution to their spring requirements, and will attract new customers seeking a one stop solution to their spring needs".

Operations of the two companies are being consolidated onto a single site at Harris Springs' modern, purpose-built manufacturing facility outside Reading in the village of Ruscombe.
