Hagglund drives supplied with Spider control

A Hagglunds Drives product story

Hagglunds has developed the Spider control system, a microprocessor-based control that has four basic functions.

First, it can control up to four axial-piston variable-displacement transmission pumps with electro-hydraulic strokers - which means virtually any transmission pump - directly without the need of individual control cards.

Specific drive controls for applications such as shredder control, mill control, synchronising control are pre-programmed, making the system versatile with many languages also selectable.

It provides the vital start-stop logic for up to three electric motors and up to two completely separate drive systems or combination machines.

The interface with the customer can be hard-wired or by bus.

It provides the health monitoring of the systems with many inputs and outputs - both digital and analogue - possible, so speed, pressure and temperature feedback is provided.

Spider also provides logging information for all analogue inputs, so if problems arise it is possible to interrogate the system to see what has been happening over a period of time to troubleshoot the system and rectify the problem.

A remote monitoring system is also available so that the system pressures, temperatures and speeds can be viewed over the net from anywhere.

The company said this is useful on new applications where end users are not able to provide the necessary technical competence needed until the drive system has been running successfully for a period long enough for them to gain confidence.

Most Hagglunds drive systems are now supplied with the Spider control because it reduces the interfacing for customers down to a minimum and makes installation and commissioning a simple matter.

This makes downtime on-site to install new drives very short.
