Harting has added a fibre-optic module to its Han Modular family of industrial connectors.

Harting has added a fibre-optic module to its Han Modular family of industrial connectors.

Based on the industry-standard SC passive fibre-optic connector, the new SC-module allows optical communication links to be integrated into the same connector housings as power, signal and pneumatic interfaces in industrial automation or machine building applications.

The new SC-module can also be used for single module applications when mounting in the Han-Modular Compact series of hoods and housings.

Each connector can terminate up to four 50/125 or 62.5/125um optical fibres.

The connectors simply snap in to the module, making assembly and disassembly very straightforward without the need for special tools.

The female contacts are equipped with centring ferrules, four of which are included as standard with each module.

The module will accommodate SC connectors from different manufacturers, allowing a choice of well-established termination techniques - including 3M and hot-melt - to be used.

The ease of termination, coupled with the fact that the connectors are of the same type used in IP20 patch panels, makes the module ideally suited to situations where field assembly is required.
