Fieldbus control for innovative conveyor system
Harting's PowerSwitch decentralised motor controller forms the heart of an AS-i based Fieldbus control package adopted by EWAB Engineering for an innovative conveyor system.
The Gigalink device incorporates an integrated cable management system which dramatically speeds installation in comparison with existing systems.
The cable manager, which can be colour-coded, supports simultaneous insertion of the cable strands, thereby avoiding the time-consuming manual placement of individual connectors.
The fact that crossconnection is implemented in the cable manager rather than in the cable itself also minimises near-end crosstalk effects and contributes to the high transmission performance.
A built-in cable adjustment system guides the shielded twisted cores to their contacts within the connector, eliminating the deterioration in crosstalk characteristics that can result when shielding braids separate in conventional systems.
The cable adjustment system also ensures that a high-quality connection is maintained in tough industrial environments over long periods, even under conditions of heavy vibration.
The Category 6 data module used in the Gigalink connector is compatible with Harting's existing four-core data module, which uses the company's Harax rapid connection technology.
This means that an existing 100Mbit/s Fast Ethernet installation can easily be upgraded to 1000Mbit/s Gigabit Ethernet without having to change the connector interface.
The RJ Industrial Gigalink connector is available in IP20 data, IP67 push/pull, IP67 data, and IP67 hybrid (with four additional power contacts) versions.
All the devices exceed the clearance and creepage requirements for industrial environments.
