Industrial PCs are made for control cabinets

A Hayes Control Systems product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 18, 2006

Industrial PC series comes with a 3.5in motherboard equipped with Intel Celeron M or Pentium M processors up to 1.8GHz.

Hayes Control Systems, the exclusive UK distributor for Beckhoff, now offers an industrial PC designed for installation in control cabinets.

The new C69xx industrial PC series comes with a 3.5in motherboard equipped with Intel Celeron M or Pentium M processors up to 1.8GHz.

The series consisting of two types of industrial PC, features compact cases with PC connections on one side of the housing.

Both PCs can be equipped with mounting plates on two sides and fastened with screws in the control cabinet.

Installation can, therefore be achieved using either the rear or right-hand side panel.

The series is supplied with a 24V DC power supply unit, which can be integrated with uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and, battery packs can be externally connected and installed on a 30mm DIN rail close to the PC.

Differences in this series can be identified via the processor and cooling systems on each PC.

Although both products have cooling fans behind the right-hand side panels, no fan is required at the C6925 with the Intel Celeron M ULV 1GHz; but the C6920 with Intel Celeron M 1.5GHz or Intel Pentium M 1.8GHz has a fan inside.

The latter version also has an easily exchangeable cartridge at the bottom of the housing.

In both cases the basic configuration features a flash disk that effectively creates a high-reliability PC without any moving parts.

Users have the additional option of integrating a hard disk into the PC and a mini PCI slot is available inside the C69xx.

Beckhoff mini PCI fieldbus cards for Profibus (FC3151), CANopen (FC5151), DeviceNet (FC5251) or an additional Ethernet card (FC9051) can also be installed inside the PCs.

The series can alternatively, be combined with Beckhoff control panels with DVI and USB connection, or with Ethernet control panels as operating units.

This creates a high-performance control platform for machine construction and system engineering applications, particularly in conjunction with the TwinCAT automation software under Windows CE, Windows XP, or Windows XP Embedded.

Two independent Ethernet interfaces within the design mean that the C69xx series is ideally suited as a compact central processing unit for an EtherCAT control system.

Although the 100Mbit/s Ethernet port offers optimum performance for all EtherCAT control tasks and, a gigabit port is additionally available for connecting the higher-level network.
