Bruce Engelmann is the new Chief Technology Officer at Abaqus.

Bruce Engelmann is the new Chief Technology Officer at Abaqus In his new role, Engelmann will be responsible for extending the company's technology leadership position and guiding Abaqus technical software development in response to customers' long-term business requirements

"In his new position, Bruce will have overall responsibility for the technology in our products", said Mark Goldstein, President and CEO of Abaqus.

"Recently, Bruce has successfully piloted our development team through a number of key strategic initiatives.

The combination he offers of technical prowess with deep application knowledge is widely recognised by many in our industry".

"Our customers are used to Abaqus delivering breakthrough technology in production quality software that makes a positive difference to the way they work and to their design process", commented Engelmann.

"I'm very pleased to step up to a more strategic role in technology development to keep Abaqus at the forefront in delivering productivity and process improvements to our customers".

Since joining Abaqus in 1996, Engelmann has directed the development of Abaqus/Explicit and other leading advanced mechanics technologies for the company.

Prior to joining Abaqus, he worked on automotive applications involving development of zero emission vehicles and was instrumental in obtaining the first FMVSS certification of an electric sedan and pickup truck in the USA.

During this period he was awarded two design patents in crash engineering management systems.

Before that, Engelmann was a lead developer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for six years, involved with development of the DYNA and NIKE codes.

He graduated with a PhD in civil engineering from Northwestern University in 1986.
