Jay Lakhani has been appointed Senior Applications Engineer for HBM UK, the data acquisition and measurement specialists.

Jay, 48, joins HBM UK from its sister company Bruel and Kjaer where he worked for 10 years as a technical service engineer involved with sound and vibration analysis projects.

The appointment strengthens HBM's plans to take more than 60% market share for dynamic torque measurement devices and a substantial market share of the data acquisition business.

Lakhani will have a customer-facing role, visiting sites and determining ways of improving the efficiency of customer applications by using HBM's data acquisition and measurement instruments, as well as providing high-level customer support.

One goal for Lakhani, who is a qualified Microsoft Professional, is to set up a new calibration service for HBM's amplifiers: "The calibration of amplifiers is one of the most widely misunderstood aspects of data acquisition," says Lakhani.

"Without properly calibrated instruments then the reliability of data gathered is highly suspect.

This ultimately affects the quality of the end-product, which could prove serious if the application is automotive or aeronautical.".
