One of Europe's leading fastening systems companies has updated two tooling powerigs, with significant operator benefits.

Telford (Shropshire) based Huck Fasteners has launched the HK432-2, a modified version of the popular former HK432 and launched a new HK432-HS (Huck-Spin).

As electrically operated units, both are designed to provide hydraulic pressure for a wide range of Huck installation tools, although the HK432-HS can also be used with both Huck-Spin and non Huck-Spin tools.

The three-phase HK432-2, part of Huck's Focus range of tooling, is used in a variety of applications.

Changes include: the cover, which is now 75mm higher and surrounding the whole of the Powerig, protecting the previously exposed motor fan inlet from pintail intrusion; the frame is now powder coated rather than zinc chromate plated, thus conforming with environmental restrictions placed on the use of chrome 6 based plating finishes; increased reliability from an internal design change to the return valve; a larger electrical box; and other additional features to improve electrical safety.

All the components included in the HK432-2 are the same as the previous model including the motor, valves, pump and all of the electrical components.

The new HK432-HS, is basically the same model as the HK432-2 but has the following additional features: a Siemens S7 programmable logic controller - common throughout Europe; all tools connect directly to the Powerig and all components for operating Huck-Spin tools, are combined in one unit - for example, the air valves and pressure transducer are now incorporated within the frame; automatic recognition of tool types - Huck-Spin and non-Huck-Spin; and multi friendly built-in screen with fault analysis.

Rob Pattenden, Technical Manager at Huck, explains the reasoning behind the changes to the two rigs.

He said: "We looked at feedback from existing users and made the changes based on their comments.

Placing an all-over cover on both of the rigs to protect the fan from fastener pintails is a simple idea that I'm sure will now eliminate time and money spent on replacing damaged component parts.

Providing multi lingual screen displays with the HK432-HS was costly.

Now, however, each of the error code messages is assigned a number.

The numeric list can then be printed in the relevant language onto a sticker and placed on the rig.

Continued use of the same major common components has also resulted in a cost saving for our customers".
