Huck Fasteners has recently passed a major milestone in working with one of Europe's biggest names.
Telford based Huck Fasteners engineers high-quality high-performance fastening systems for a variety of applications, predominantly in the truck, trailer, commercial vehicle body builder, auto and railcar markets.
Huck has a dedicated commercial sales team and well established distribution network throughout Scandinavia and the rest of Europe.
Production Goteborg, part of Volvo Trucks Global Manufacturing Division, sells to 130 markets worldwide, employs 2000 people and produces 20,000 Volvo FM and FH trucks per year.
Volvo Truck was the first company in the world to use Huck-Spin in serial production and ten years later it is still using the fastener to secure the fifth wheel to all of its chassis.
Alf Kangas, who has worked for Volvo Truck since 1971 and as a Design Engineer for Chassis and Vehicle Dynamics since 1978, explains the application.
He said: "When Huck first approached us about using their fasteners, we liked the idea of replacing a nut and bolt that could potentially loosen, with a secure fastener.
We decided on the Huck-Spin fastener in our fifth wheel application because it easily passed the rigorous testing cycles on the Volvo endurance truck".
The use of Huck-Spin also affected Volvo Truck's assembly operation.
Kangas continues: "Prior to using the new fastener, bolt holes had to be reamed and bolts hammered into place at a different factory site.
This was costly and disrupted production.
The alternative of using Huck-Spin and Huck tooling on the production line has, therefore, saved us a great deal of time and money and due to the quiet installation procedure, also met our strict health and safety regulations".
Anders Fredlund, Customer Manager for Huck in Scandinavia and Benelux, said: "Volvo Truck are a highly valued customer for Huck in Sweden and it is encouraging to see such obvious benefits to them from using our fasteners.
They have very high standards, which I hope we will continue to match for another ten years".
