The company has appointed Sarah Darby to the position, replacing Steve Gill who recently relocated to the AFS production plant in Waco, Texas.
Reporting directly to Engineering Director Glenn Jennings, Darby's roll is to streamline and improve the process of transforming customer requirements into reliable, repeatable high quality manufacturing processes that result in what the customer wants in the shortest possible timeframe.
It will develop to encompass all aspects of product engineering at AFS from initial customer enquiries through product development to customer trials.

26-year-old Darby graduated from Staffordshire University in 2001 with an honours degree in engineering and previously worked as a Manufacturing Engineer at Leoni Wiring Systems in Newcastle-Under-Lyme.
Prior to that, she worked for Shrewsbury based Stadco Pressings, where she managed the installation of a small progression press and decoiler.
During her work placement as an Environmental Project Engineer at Stadco in 1999, she was the waste minimisation champion in line with the company's ISO14001 compliance.
Darby is looking forward to developing her role with AFS and has no reservations about being a woman in what may traditionally be seen as a man's domain.
She said: "I've always been interested in engineering from when I was a small child working on my dad's van engines, so operating in a team of men doesn't phase me at all.
First and foremost, they see me as an engineer, which is what I would expect and in fact represents the professional but friendly working atmosphere at AFS.
I also hope to use my environmental engineering experience to help maintain the excellent record in waste minimisation at AFS".
Commenting on Darby's appointment, AFS Engineering Director, Glenn Jennings, said: "Sarah impressed us during the half day theory and practical assessment part of the interview, where she out shone the other candidates.
Her combined enthusiasm, excellent qualifications and experience gained through work placements will make her a great asset to the company". Request free introductory details about products from Alcoa Fastening Systems ...
