A UK company is still impressing Germany's leading trailer manufacturer seven years after regaining a lost contract.

Huck fasteners is a brand of Alcoa Fastening Systems (AFS), which engineers high-quality, high-performance fastening systems for a variety of applications, predominantly in the trailer, commercial vehicle body builder, railcar, truck and auto markets.

Humbaur, founded in 1980 and located at Gersthofen, employs 200 people across the organisation.

As Germany's leading manufacturer, the company produces 25,000 trailers per year - including box vans, horse-trailers, car and motorcycle transporters and three-way tippers - sold throughout Europe and some other countries around the world.

The largest trailer has a maximum load capacity of 3t.

Although the account was lost during the early 1990s, Humbaur's trust was regained in 1996.

With 14 years experience and responsibility for a Eur 10 million budget, Humbaur's Senior Purchaser Oliver Czech, explains: "We needed a fastener with a strong clamp force, where the pin break was flush with the sleeve after installation.

The extra work required to rectify this problem had previously affected our on-time delivery, so we returned to Huck with a new proposal to resolve the situation.

The quality of their product, in this case various sizes of their Magna-Lok, exceeded our expectations".

Negotiating a fair price from suppliers is a major consideration for Czech.

He continues: "The price of Huck fasteners have remained stable over the past two years, which makes me happy.

However, our excellent relationship with AFS is based on a combination of price, quality and prompt delivery".

Ludwig Frank, Customer Manager in Germany for AFS said: "Humbaur are a very important customer for us and it was important to win back their business, which I hope will continue as our relationship becomes stronger and stronger".
