A German engineering company that assembles and supplies Powerigs to accompany a UK manufacturer's tooling, has achieved its best turnover in over 50 years since becoming a distributor for the products.

Located at Osterode, in central Germany, Seyer builds, tests and repairs a wide range of electrical and mechanical equipment and components, including milling machines, pumps and bespoke hydraulic motors for the automotive industry.

Telford based Alcoa Fastening Systems (AFS), whose prevailing featured brand is Huck fasteners, engineers high-quality, high-performance fastening systems for a variety of applications predominantly in the trailer, commercial vehicle body builder, railcar, truck and auto markets.

Although the two companies have had a relationship since 1993 and Seyer currently produces 200 Powerigs a year for AFS, the capacity to sell fasteners was only accommodated through the employment of a sales manager in April 2003.

Major customers now include rail carriage manufacturer Bombardier-Siemens and sales figures for Huck products alone increased by nearly 100% from GBP 180,000 in 2002 to GBP 341,000 in 2003.

Andreas Seyer, whose grandfather originally set up Seyer in 1948, said: "Becoming a distributor was a natural progression for us".

"It has not been easy but the future is good for Seyer now, considering the current economic situation in this part of Germany".

"We are also looking at potential new markets, for example, rubble grading manufacturers in the mining industry".

Ludwig Frank, Customer Manager in Germany for AFS said: "Seyer have exceeded all expectations and I anticipate them making a major contribution to increased sales for AFS in Germany, especially as they were recently presented with the best growth distributor award for 2002-03 by the AFS directors".
