A key Midland's distributor for Alcoa Fastening Systems has secured a contract to supply the UK's leading manufacturer of trailers and rigid vehicle bodies.

A key Midland's distributor for Alcoa Fastening Systems (AFS) has secured a contract to supply the UK's leading manufacturer of trailers and rigid vehicle bodies.

Established in 1989, Ilkeston (Derbyshire) based Star Fasteners is the UK's largest supplier of Huck brand fastening systems engineered by AFS, serving a variety of applications predominantly in the truck, trailer, commercial vehicle body builder, auto and railcar markets.

Don-Bur is the market champion for the complete range of trailers and rigid bodywork.

Its innovative and flexible approach to engineering and manufacture provides cost effective distribution solutions to maximise operational efficiency and profitability.

Whether individual or fleet quantities, Don-Bur supplies to major hauliers, logistics companies and multiple retailers throughout the UK.

With a GBP 40 million annual turnover and employing over 500 people, the company also provides a full after sales service to the commercial vehicle industry including accident repairs, refurbishments, relivery, general servicing and preparation for MOTs.

Star Fasteners has been working with Don-Bur since 1991 and resigned an extension to its original 2000 contract as a direct supplier after a recent quality and cost benefit analysis.

Dan Starbuck, MD at Star Fasteners, said: "We currently supply a range of fasteners including Floortight, used in a number of trailer and box van applications, and have the facility, capacity and expertise to offer a fastening solution almost anywhere on a Don-Bur trailer".

"Whilst a supplier's price must always be scrutinised, if the result is unsatisfactory product, then the reputation of a company may be affected".

"Even after the cost benefit analysis Huck fasteners were considered better value for money, so we are very pleased to have secured a long term agreement with Don-Bur".

Andrew Richardson, Engineering Director at Don-Bur said: "Star Fasteners consistently provide a number of options to the problems we set them".

"The final solution is a combination of operational efficiency, quality and strength of fastening - the minimum requirements expected from our customers".
