Fluid viscosity measurement comes online
Once a mainstay of laboratory analysis, fluid viscosity measurement has now been brought on-line in the shape of XL Series Process Viscometers from Hydramotion.
Viscosity measured on the spot
The Viscolite 700 from Hydramotion gives instant spot measurement of viscosity in the field, factory or lab without requiring any on-site setup or calibration.
The narrow-bodied enclosure takes up minimal space at the top of the vessel, leaving plenty of room for ancillary equipment, eg for stirring, reagent addition or temperature measurement.
Although robust, the RV-100 is light enough to be fitted to a laboratory-sized reaction vessel without requiring additional support.
The instrument is supplied with a standard conical joint for sealed connection to commercially-available apparatus, or alternative fittings can be provided on request.
The sensor is a solid probe with no moving parts, bearings or seals that could wear out or fail in service.
The standard sensor is constructed from 316 stainless steel, although other materials can be used if required.
It is available in any length to suit different vessel sizes, and a high-polish, PTFE or custom finish can be applied.
The rugged construction enables the viscometer to be used in systems under vacuum or at high pressure with complete confidence.
Viscosity is measured every two seconds and displayed on a separate signal processor unit sealed to IP65.
If hooked up to a temperature sensor, temperature and temperature-corrected viscosity can also be displayed.
Output includes a 4-20mA analogue viscosity signal and a serial datalink (RS422/485 or RS232).
Two volt-free contacts can be provided to signal high or low viscosity alarm conditions.
An optional software package (ViscoWedge) enables measurement data to be logged and transferred to a PC for analysis.
The RV-100 needs no initial setting-up or calibration and virtually no maintenance.
It is ideal for monitoring changes in viscosity during the course of a reaction, for example in esterification or polymer synthesis, and can be used either as a research tool or applied to a small-scale production facility. Request a free brochure from Hydramotion ...
