New 30:1 ratio for zero backlash gears
New from Heason Technologies Group is the Harmonic 'Super Mini' gear range with 30:1 ratio, designed to replace planetary and spur gears for high speed applications

Harmonic Drive gears to touch down on Mars
Astrium selected Harmonic Drive gears, from Heason Technologies Group, for five axes of motion control on the instrument arm of the Beagle 2 Mars lander, which is scheduled to touchdown in 2003
The new HFUC Super Mini series is designed to replace planetary and spur gears for high speed applications that will benefit from Harmonic Drives' zero backlash, compact design and low weight characteristics.
Units have peak torques up to 16Nm and 1.5 minute of arc accuracy with a maximum outer diameter of 60mm.
A major feature of the new gears is a specially developed tooth profile that ensures positive engagement giving enhanced self-preloading.
This, in conjunction with an optimised wall thickness of the flexible component (Flexspline) to minimise bending stress, combine to give significantly improved performance.
Compared to previous Harmonic Drive mini gears the rated and repeated peak torque are both 20% higher, momentary peak torque 100% greater, transmission accuracy 20% higher and torsional stiffness 50% greater, whilst axial length is 20% shorter.
The new Super Mini Series is available in component sets in sizes from 8 to 17, and as gear units from 14 to 17.
