A new generation of Harmonic Drive hollow-shaft, servo actuators reduced in length by a third compared with previous units, but offering superior performance, was launched at the Hanover Fair

A new generation of Harmonic Drive hollow-shaft, servo actuators said to be reduced in length by a third compared with previous units, but offering superior performance, was launched at the Hanover Fair Succeeding the earlier FHA actuator units, the new 'C-class', available from Heason Technologies Group in the UK, enables engineers to save both on weight and space requirements

Enhanced performance characteristics include: higher torque capacity (690Nm compared with 570Nm for the size 40 actuator); an absolute positioning accuracy of better than 30 sec.

arc plus repeatability of better than 5 sec.

arc; 30% increase in stiffness resulting from a new 'super' flat' gear component set; and 30% larger hollow-shaft diameter.

In addition, a range of different encoders can be attached to the motor shaft, permitting easy connection to a wide range of different servo drives and CNC control systems.

Options include: single- and multi-turn absolute encoders with 'Hyperface' interface, and Siemens 'Simodrive' compatible Sine/Cosine encoders.

The new FHA-C is available in three sizes (17C, 25C and 40C), all offer reduction ratios of 1:50 and 1:100.

Respective characteristics for the three units are: Pk torque, 57, 250 and 690Nm; Max speed, 96, 90 and 70; and Max hollow-shaft diameter, 18, 32 and 45mm.
