Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jun 27, 2008

Loctite 55 is used for securing joints in all kinds of pipework and replaces traditional methods such as PTFE tape, pastes and solvent drying compounds.

Henkel's Loctite 55 sealing cord has been granted CORGI Certification approval by the gas industry watchdog.

This is the first threadsealing product to achieve this status.

Loctite 55 is used for securing joints in all kinds of pipework and replaces traditional methods such as PTFE tape, pastes and solvent drying compounds.

The thin, yet exceptionally strong, fibres are wound around the male threads of the joint and then cut using the in-built edge of the cord's container.

If the fittings don't immediately align, the cord allows easy backing-off, without the risk of leakage.

The sealing cord, which is available in 50 and 150m lengths, is temperature-resistant to 130C.

It is suitable for cast iron, steel, brass, copper, chrome, nickel-plated and galvanised surfaces, stainless steel and plastic.

Alongside the CORGI approval, it carries EN751-2 Class ARp for the gas industry and WRC approval for use with potable water to 85C.
