During June 2005 the Health and Safety Executive made a number of important changes and additions to its website that are relevant to the field of industrial health and safety.

The June 2005 issue of Euronews is now available (Euronews is a publication from the HSE that provides details on the health and safety legislative proposals introduced by the European Commission that are currently under negotiation or being implemented in the UK, plus it carries information on key strategies that will affect the UK health and safety system and areas where domestic legislation has been changed to ensure full implementation of European Directives) On 30 June the Rail incidents section of the HSE's website was updated with information relating to Gerrards Cross and Rawcliffe Bridge

Numerous Research Reports have been published and are available via the website: RR353 (Accident statistics for floating offshore units on the UK continental shelf 1980-2003); RR349 (Accident statistics for fixed offshore units on the UK continental shelf 1980 - 2003); RR299 (Evaluation of CEN ultrasonic testing standards for in-service inspection); RR338 (Measurement and analysis of magnetic fields from welding processes); RR357 (Findings of an expert panel engaged to conduct a scoping study on survival design of floating production storage and offloading vessels against extreme metocean conditions); RR360 (Provision of public assurance that major hazards are properly controlled - HSE's role); RR361 (Development of an interactive toolkit for Safe Site as part of the workplace transport priority programme); RR363 (The role and effectiveness of safety representatives in influencing workplace health and safety); RR345 (Investigation of a measurement technique to determine the apparent source for light emitting diodes); RR356 (New perspectives on falls from height - Identifying high-profile areas for intervention); RR358 (HSE survey of first aid training organisations); RR359 (Level crossing: Summary of finding and key human factors issues); HSL/2005/10 (Falls on stairways - literature review); HSL/2005/13 (Interim report on the discharge of vinyl chloride monomer from the Coral Acropora at Runcorn docks on 10 August 2004).

In relation to the Better Backs Campaign launched in June 2005, a 'Back health at work leaflet' (ref misc688) has been published and can be downloaded as a PDF file.

A number of new leaflets have been launched: INDG175 (Control the risks from hand-arm vibration); INDG242 (Control back pain risks from whole-body vibration); INDG296 (Hand-arm vibration - advice for employees); INDG404 (Drive away bad backs - advice for mobile machine operators and drivers).

In addition, information about the new Control of vibration at work regulations 2005 has been added to the website.

A new website area has been added for the footwear and leather Industries.

In relation to workplace transport, SafeSite interactive tool/case studies has been added.

In relation to the printing industry, manual handling videos have been added.

The Falls website has also been updated.

Two new free leaflets are worth highlighting: INDG258 - Safe work in confined spaces - revised; and INDG172 - Breathe freely - revised.

Other miscellaneous updates include: The new Work at Height Regulations 2005 - frequently asked questions; Manual handling - frequently asked questions; Ergonomic considerations for designing and selecting conveyor belt systems; Partners for better health at work newsletter, for the 'Securing Health Together' (SH2) campaign.
