HSE report on violence management in healthcare

A HSE Health and Safety Executive product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Oct 16, 2006

HSE publishes report into the provision of violence management training in the healthcare sector.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) today publishes a research report into the development of effective trainers in delivering violence management training in the healthcare sector.

The report is published jointly with NHS Security Management Service.

The report is directly concerned with the violence management trainer and the associated systems that are deemed necessary for selecting and developing competent and confident trainers.

Key competencies necessary for the effective delivery of violence management training are identified, with subsequent recommendations.

The research was commissioned following the report 'A Safer Place to Work NHS 2003' published by the National Audit Office (NAO).

The NAO report found that there was a lack of evidence based information to support the process of selection, development and management of the trainers who provide violence and aggression management training within the healthcare sector.

'Violence management training: the development of effective trainers in the delivery of violence management in healthcare settings' can be found at www.hse.gov.uk/research/rrhtm/rr495.htm.
