With its new LS 629, Heidenhain presents an incremental linear encoder that has been specially developed for use on CNC press brakes.

The forming of thick or long metal plate requires very great force, which can cause mechanical strain in the machine.

This places additional requirements on linear encoders, such as large mounting tolerances together with high accuracy.

Up to now, linear encoders have therefore had to be provided with an additional guideway and coupling.

The LS 629 improves on conventional solutions by featuring an integrated high-quality polished steel guide and a coupling rod.

This enables the LS 629 to provide a long-lasting accuracy grade of 10 microns in spite of a relatively large tolerance of + 2 mm, even under extreme conditions.

Since the guideway and coupling rod are free of backlash, the reversal error of the LS 629 is less than 5 microns.

Also, mounting and adjusting time is greatly reduced.

The LS 629 outputs incremental signals with a signal period of 20 microns and is available with single or distance-coded reference marks for measuring lengths up to 920 mm.
