Speed is the highlight of improved machine control
With the launch a new machining centre control system, data processing time is being made eight times faster than the previous TNC generation with a block processing time of 0.5ms
With the launch of iTNC 530 control system for universal milling, machining centres or processes requiring optimal tool path control, Heidenhain data processing time is now eight times faster than the previous TNC generation with a block processing time of 0.5ms.
The introduction of Heidenhain's 'Fast Ethernet' communication interface enables program data transfer at 100 Mbit/sec - some 10 times faster than before and a new NC editor introduces a large program editing capability allowing instantaneous insertion and editing of information blocks.
Now available through Heidenhain (GB), the iTNC 530 has been developed around the company's proven basic operational techniques.
This ensures that a part program that was written, even for the first TNC 145 contouring control system launched in 1981, can also be run on a machine tool fitted with the latest iTNC 530.
In the new control, Heidenhain has for the first time separated the NC main computer from the drive control unit and installed the powerful Intel-processor architecture.
However, any operator familiar with TNC systems will still be able to immediately make full use of his previous experience with the advantage of increased processing power and faster operational times.
Data is displayed either on a high resolution 15 inch 1028 by 768 pixel XGA resolution screen or a compact 10.4 inch, 640 by 480 pixel VGA resolution screen.
In typical Heidenhain tradition, the machinist does not have to memorise G-codes but use combinations of dedicated and soft keys to program line segments, circular arcs and cycles.
Heidenhain plain language dialogue is initiated by a single keystroke and each programmed tool movement is immediately drawn as it is entered.
The iTNC 530 will provide high level graphical workpiece simulation of the machining cycle before the program is started and, to help when producing hidden features or when coolant is being used, a key switch enables program-run graphic visualisation of the process.
Being developed to accommodate universal and five-axis type applications, when optimised tool path control is critical, the programming of tilting head, rotary inclined or cylindrical surface machining cycles is simple due to the capability of the control to calculate the actual co-ordinate system.
And, when 3-D form programs have been written off-line, the iTNC 530 can account for the individual geometric design of the machine tool so that the same program can be run on different machines.
