One of the first contract machinists to receive the new ISO9001:2000 quality standard is Abingdon-based Holifields.

One of the first contract machinists to receive the new ISO9001:2000 quality standard is Abingdon-based Holifields, which specialises in water jet cutting, turning and prismatic machining for the medical, Formula 1, cryogenics, instrumentation and scientific sectors.

All companies currently certified to ISO9001:1994, or previously certified to the discontinued ISO9002 or 9003 quality standards, will need to update to the new requirements.

The main difference is a movement towards a process-based approach to management, linking business objectives with effectiveness more directly.

What Holifields' customers can expect is a heightened awareness at management level of resource allocation and documentation as well as a more proactive lead in setting objectives, ensuring they are achieved and communicating results both internally and externally.

Analysis and improvement of customer satisfaction levels also forms part of the standard.
