Big sales for micro PLCs indicate strong future

A HID product story

Don't write off the PLC, says HID: since launching the latest Hitachi EH-Micro range of PLCs in mid 2000, the company has experienced unprecedented growth in sales of the powerful new baby devices.

Anyone writing the PLC off because of the possibility of new "soft" PLC functionality being deployed from the desktop PC, may have to think again.

Since launching the latest Hitachi EH-Micro range of PLCs in mid 2000, HID has experienced unprecedented growth in sales of the powerful new baby devices.

The growth is coming in large part according to HID's national sales manager Stuart Harvey, from those more accustomed to using traditional relay networks.

Mr Harvey cites the ease of the Hitachi programming software as one reason for this.

"Last year HID started running introductory training courses in PLC programming and application", Mr Harvey explained, "and many who attend these courses are familiar with ladder logic as applied to relay networks and control circuits.

What they are often unaware of however, are the coist savings from using PLCs and just how simple they are to use now".

As a result, many of the people who have come on the HID training courses have become PLC converts.

The EH-Micro is an expandable series of PLCs, offering between 10 to 84 I/O.

The PLCs were developed with special consideration being given to network capabilities, international standards and the reduction of EMC noise.

The compact package includes PWM and pulse train outputs, interrupt inputs, a 32-bit RISC processor, a high speed counter input and a real time clock.

Analogue data processing is also available and the PLCs can be programmed using Hitachi's PLC programming software.

The extensive array of commands, together with the excellent communication and flexibility of the EH-Micro, sets it apart in its class.
