Global competition as well as the growing need for change in the installed process control systems meant that Degussa Initiators had to rethink the technical realisation of its entire OP operation.
Safety controller drives asset management system
Hima Paul Hildebrandt has combined its H51q safety controller, with the H 6200 intrinsically safe analogue isolator and the H 6210 Hart multiplexer to form an asset management system.
A total of ten type H51q-HS controllers will be used in the entire plant as emergency shutdown systems (ESD) and also as burner management systems (BMS) in the TAREX (thermal air purification for potentially explosive substances) plant area.
In addition to the company's previous favourable experience with Hima safety technology, the "maintenance override" feature was a crucial factor in favour of the H51q-HS systems.
The eight systems for the TDA plant and the two systems for the connected thermal air purification process approximately 6500 I/Os or 300 I/Os from a safety aspect.
The process control of the entire plant takes place via the DeltaV control system from Emerson.
The H51q-HS is a modular and extendable safety system with TUV-approved, maximum available CPUs for applications up to SIL 3.
Hima supplied the entire hardware and was also responsible for the mounting of the cabinets as well as for the programming and commissioning of the systems.
The maintenance override forms a bridging system, which permits the operator of a plant to bridge over a sensor or actuator while the plant is in operation for carrying out maintenance work or function tests.
This happens for a defined period by means of a special enable switch in the measuring station.
This concept represents a major reduction in the work and expense incurred by such interventions in the process. Request a free brochure from Hima Paul Hildebrandt ...
