Hima Paul Hildebrandt has supplied four emergency shutdown systems to one of the largest production plants for granular urea fertiliser in Asia.

Hima Paul Hildebrandt has supplied four emergency shutdown systems (ESD) for the fertiliser plant of Asean Bintulu Fertiliser (ABF) in Bintulu (Malaysia), which is one of the largest production plants for granular urea fertiliser in Asia.

The type H51q HRS safety related systems have been used to replace old relay systems in the plant.

For ABF, a member of Petronas group of companies, this revamp represented a further step in the modernisation of its production plants.

Hima carried out the engineering and the project management, and Hima Malaysia was responsible for installation and commissioning.

The order value for the project amounts to approximately Eur 700,000.

Under this safeguarding system project, four ESD systems were installed and commissioned with two systems in the ammonia plant, one system in the urea and plant and the final system in the boiler plant.

Each of the systems processes approximately 500 safety I/Os.

The Hima systems communicate via Modbus with the process control system provided by Yokogawa.

The system requirement stipulated as mandatory a SIL 3-certified system to protect man and the environment, which is easily fulfilled by the TUV approved, maximum available systems from the H51q family.

The system has been commissioned.
