CPUs and comms upgrade safety controllers

A Hima Paul Hildebrandt product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 25, 2006

New safety controller CPUs enable self-education in redundant systems.

With the introduction of new CPUs (SIL 3/Cat 4) as well as new communication modules, Hima Paul Hildebrandt is expanding its product portfolio of H41q/H51q safety controllers.

The CPUs enable self-education in redundant systems.

During the replacement of a CPU, which is also possible when the plant is in operation, data and programs are automatically copied from the new CPU, which means that the CPUs do not have to be manually reconciled.

This serves to simplify handling and avoid faults.

The total system is also able to meet the requirements up to SIL 3 even while a replacement is progress.

Additional advantages offered by the CPUs include the reload functions, which allow program changes to be made without stopping the system, and also a fast error localisation provided by a very high diagnosis detection rate.

At the same time as the CPUs, two new communication modules are being introduced, which can be used to program the CPUs with ELOP II via Ethernet.

This means that an additional RS485 programming bus is no longer required.

With Ethernet as a basis, it is possible to incorporate the following into a network topology: the safety-related data transmission (Safe Ethernet), the OPC bus, the PCS bus, the programming bus and the event recording bus (SOE).

A redundant structure is possible in order to increase system availability.
